Description
Tur1B (1-32) is a proline-rich antimicrobial peptide (PrAMP) identified in the bottlenose dolphin Tursiops truncatus. It shares 53% sequence identity with its paralog Tur1A but exhibits distinct characteristics, including a lower overall charge (+6) and the presence of multiple tryptophan residues. Unlike Tur1A, Tur1B shows poor inhibitory activity against bacterial protein synthesis, suggesting an alternative mechanism of action. The peptide does not rely on the SbmA or YjiL/MdtM transporters for uptake, further differentiating it from typical PrAMPs.
Tur1B shares sequence and charge similarities with the bovine tryptophan-rich peptide indolicidin, which is known to interact with bacterial membranes and DNA. The presence of tryptophan residues in Tur1B may facilitate membrane interactions, potentially leading to membrane permeabilization or other intracellular targets. The peptide's unique features position it as an intermediate between ribosome-targeting PrAMPs and membrane-active peptides, offering insights into the evolutionary diversity of antimicrobial peptides in cetaceans.

About TFA salt
Trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) is a common counterion from the purification process using High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). The presence of TFA can affect the peptide's net weight, appearance, and solubility.
Impact on Net Weight: The TFA salt contributes to the total mass of the product. In most cases, the peptide content constitutes >80% of the total weight, with TFA accounting for the remainder.
Solubility: TFA salts generally enhance the solubility of peptides in aqueous solutions.
In Biological Assays: For most standard in vitro assays, the residual TFA levels do not cause interference. However, for highly sensitive cellular or biochemical studies, please be aware of its presence.
