  • Description

This recombinant protein product features a stable and soluble fragment (amino acids 1-88) of the human Synaptonemal Complex Central Element Protein 3 (SYCE3), also known as Testis Highly Expressed Gene 2 protein (THEG-2). This fragment is ideal for structural and biochemical studies, enabling researchers to investigate key aspects of meiosis and chromosomal synapsis.

The full-length SYCE3 protein is a major component of the transverse central element of synaptonemal complexes (SCS), which form between homologous chromosomes during meiotic prophase. It plays a critical role in assembling the central element of the synaptonemal complex by remodeling SYCP1 lattice structures and promoting the recruitment of SYCE2-TEX12 and SYCE1-SIX60S1 complexes. SYCE3 is essential for loading central element-specific SCS proteins onto chromosomes, initiating synapsis between homologous chromosomes, and supporting fertility and normal testis development. It is localized in the nucleus and specifically associates with chromosomes, colocalizing with SYCE1 in the central elements during meiosis.
