  • Description

This recombinant protein is a fragment of the human Breast Cancer Type 1 Susceptibility Protein (BRCA1), specifically spanning amino acids 1649–1863. It fully encompasses the BRCT 2 domain, making it an ideal tool for researchers studying DNA damage response, ubiquitin ligase activity, and BRCA1-mediated cellular pathways in a domain-specific context.

The full-length BRCA1 protein, encoded by the BRCA1 gene in humans, functions as an E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase that primarily mediates 'Lys-6'-linked polyubiquitin chain formation. It plays a central role in DNA repair by facilitating cellular responses to DNA damage, regulating homologous recombination repair, and coordinating cell cycle checkpoints in the S and G2 phases. BRCA1 also contributes to centrosomal microtubule nucleation, lipid synthesis inhibition, and transcriptional activation. It localizes to the nucleus and chromosomes, particularly at double-strand break sites, where it is recruited via the BRCA1-A complex. Certain isoforms may also be found in the cytoplasm, especially under stress conditions such as UV-induced apoptosis.
