  • Description

VIP (6-28) is a truncated form of vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) that acts as an effective antagonist at VIP receptors. This peptide fragment binds to VIP receptors without activating adenylate cyclase, thereby blocking the actions of endogenous VIP. In the rat superior cervical sympathetic ganglion (SCG), VIP (6-28) reduces the increase in cAMP levels produced by exogenous VIP and inhibits the VIP-stimulated elevation of VIP–PHI mRNA in neuron-enriched cultures.

VIP (6-28) is specific in its antagonism, as it does not alter cAMP levels stimulated by other agents such as isoproterenol or forskolin. By blocking the actions of VIP released from injured sympathetic neurons in culture, VIP (6-28) significantly reduces the normal increase in VIP–PHI mRNA expression. This demonstrates that VIP, or a closely related molecule, produced by adult sympathetic neurons after injury can enhance its own expression through an autocrine or paracrine mechanism.

  • About TFA salt

Trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) is a common counterion from the purification process using High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). The presence of TFA can affect the peptide's net weight, appearance, and solubility.

Impact on Net Weight: The TFA salt contributes to the total mass of the product. In most cases, the peptide content constitutes >80% of the total weight, with TFA accounting for the remainder.

Solubility: TFA salts generally enhance the solubility of peptides in aqueous solutions.

In Biological Assays: For most standard in vitro assays, the residual TFA levels do not cause interference. However, for highly sensitive cellular or biochemical studies, please be aware of its presence.
