  • Description

TLQP-21 is a multifunctional peptide derived from the VGF propeptide. It is involved in the regulation of various physiological functions. In microglial cells, TLQP-21 stimulates an increase in intracellular calcium levels. This calcium elevation can subsequently activate calcium-dependent potassium outward currents, specifically involving channels such as KCa3.1.

The peptide's C-terminal region is critical for its biological activity. Studies using analogues like JMV5656, which retains the C-terminal sequence, demonstrate that this fragment is sufficient to elicit intracellular calcium mobilization and the activation of potassium currents. The mechanism involves an interaction with cellular receptors, leading to calcium influx and the opening of calcium-activated potassium channels, which contributes to the modulation of membrane potential and calcium homeostasis in these cells.

  • Storage Guidelines

  • About TFA salt

Trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) is a common counterion from the purification process using High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). The presence of TFA can affect the peptide's net weight, appearance, and solubility.

Impact on Net Weight: The TFA salt contributes to the total mass of the product. In most cases, the peptide content constitutes >80% of the total weight, with TFA accounting for the remainder.

Solubility: TFA salts generally enhance the solubility of peptides in aqueous solutions.

In Biological Assays: For most standard in vitro assays, the residual TFA levels do not cause interference. However, for highly sensitive cellular or biochemical studies, please be aware of its presence.
