  • Description

Recombinant Human SOX-2 (Transcription factor SOX-2) fragment (residues 39-119) is a high-purity, stable protein designed for structural and biochemical studies. This 81-amino acid fragment retains key solubility and stability properties, making it ideal for investigating the molecular mechanisms of SOX-2 in embryonic development and stem cell pluripotency.

Transcription factor SOX-2, encoded by the SOX2 gene in Homo sapiens, is a critical regulator of embryonic development and stem cell pluripotency. It functions by forming a trimeric complex with OCT4 on DNA to control the expression of genes such as YES1, FGF4, UTF1, and ZFP206, and binds to the proximal enhancer region of NANOG. SOX-2 is essential for early embryogenesis and maintaining embryonic stem cell pluripotency, and it also promotes neural stem cell self-renewal by counteracting proneural proteins and suppressing neuronal differentiation, potentially acting as a switch in neuronal development. The protein localizes primarily to the nucleus, including nuclear speckles, with some presence in the cytoplasm. Its nuclear localization is influenced by acetylation, and it interacts with proteins such as ZNF208, SOX6, and CAML, while nuclear import is facilitated by XPO4.
