Description
Recombinant Ribosome maturation protein SBDS (Shwachman-Bodian-Diamond syndrome protein homolog) fragment (residues 1-253) from Caenorhabditis elegans, designed for structural and biochemical studies. This stable, soluble fragment supports research in ribosome biogenesis and protein synthesis mechanisms.
The full-length SBDS protein is essential for ribosome assembly and maturation, working with K10C3.5b/EFL1 to trigger GTP-dependent release of ribosome maturation factors from 60S pre-ribosomes in the cytoplasm. This process activates ribosomes for translation competence and enables 80S ribosome assembly, directly influencing protein synthesis levels. Additionally, SBDS may contribute to cellular stress resistance, DNA damage response, and cell proliferation. It localizes primarily to the cytoplasm, with lower levels in the nucleus and nucleolus, and is also detected at the mitotic spindle and microtubule organizing center during interphase, highlighting its dynamic cellular roles.
