This fragment, derived from the human RAD21 gene, represents a key region of the cohesin complex essential for chromosome segregation, DNA repair, and gene regulation.

    The full-length Double-strand-break repair protein rad21 homolog is a critical component of the cohesin complex, mediating sister chromatid cohesion from DNA replication in S phase through mitotic segregation. This function is vital for accurate chromosome segregation, post-replicative DNA repair, and prevention of inappropriate recombination. The protein also contributes to spindle pole assembly during mitosis and regulates gene expression, including repression of the APOB promoter and potential control of RUNX1. It localizes to the nucleus, nuclear matrix, chromosomes (particularly centromeres), and spindle poles, with dynamic dissociation during cell division. A cleaved 64-kDa C-terminal product may promote apoptosis and localizes to the cytosol and nucleus. The recombinant fragment (1-144) was selected for its stability and solubility, enabling detailed investigation of cohesin mechanisms in chromosomal integrity and cellular processes.
