  • Description
    Cathelicidins are a class of gene-encoded immune effectors in vertebrate innate immune system. Ps-CATH4 is a novel cathelicidin which was found in Chinese soft-shell turtle (Pelodiscus sinensis). Ps-CATH4 was expressed in lung, spleen, liver, kidney, muscle, stomach and intestine. Ps-CATH4 showed the most potent and broad-spectrum antimicrobial activities against the tested pathogens, with the MICs mainly ranging from 2.34 μg/ml to 18.75 μg/ml. Ps-CATH6 showed relatively low antimicrobial activity. Ps-CATH4 and 6 showed relatively low cytotoxicity towards RAW264.7 cells, inducing 15.95% and 10.98% cell death, respectively. Ps-CATH4 showed more potent membrane permeabilization effect than Ps-CATH6, which is consistent with their different antimicrobial activities.
