  • Description

ProSAAS KEP [1-8] is a peptide derived from the proSAAS precursor protein, which is involved in neuropeptide processing. This peptide is generated through proteolytic cleavage by prohormone convertases, specifically PC1/3 and PC2, which exhibit overlapping but distinct substrate specificities. The cleavage occurs at basic residue motifs, with PC1/3 showing a preference for sites containing arginine in the P2 position.

Quantitative peptidomics analysis of PC1/3 null mouse brain revealed alterations in proSAAS-derived peptides. The absence of PC1/3 activity affects the processing of proSAAS, indicating that PC1/3 plays a role in the biosynthesis of these peptides. The study demonstrates that PC1/3 and PC2 have complementary functions in neuropeptide production, with some redundancy in their cleavage activities.

  • Storage Guidelines

  • About TFA salt

Trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) is a common counterion from the purification process using High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). The presence of TFA can affect the peptide's net weight, appearance, and solubility.

Impact on Net Weight: The TFA salt contributes to the total mass of the product. In most cases, the peptide content constitutes >80% of the total weight, with TFA accounting for the remainder.

Solubility: TFA salts generally enhance the solubility of peptides in aqueous solutions.

In Biological Assays: For most standard in vitro assays, the residual TFA levels do not cause interference. However, for highly sensitive cellular or biochemical studies, please be aware of its presence.
