  • Description

Palmitoyl pentapeptide-4, also known as Pal-KTTKS or Matrixyl, is a synthetic lipopeptide composed of five amino acid residues (Lys-Thr-Thr-Lys-Ser) linked to a palmitoyl group. This structural modification enhances its stability and skin permeability. The peptide functions as a fragment of procollagen type I, acting as a signaling molecule that stimulates extracellular matrix (ECM) components. In vitro studies demonstrate its ability to upregulate the production of collagen types I, III, and IV, fibronectin, and glycosaminoglycans in dermal fibroblasts.

Biophysical analyses reveal that palmitoyl pentapeptide-4 modulates dermal restructuring through a feedback mechanism. When incorporated into sparse ECM environments, it triggers cellular responses that inhibit collagen degradation while promoting ECM synthesis. The presence of proline residues facilitates hydroxylation, a critical process for collagen maturation. These molecular interactions contribute to measurable improvements in skin elasticity and surface topography, as quantified by parameters such as viscoelasticity and trans-epidermal water loss.

  • About TFA salt

Trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) is a common counterion from the purification process using High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). The presence of TFA can affect the peptide's net weight, appearance, and solubility.

Impact on Net Weight: The TFA salt contributes to the total mass of the product. In most cases, the peptide content constitutes >80% of the total weight, with TFA accounting for the remainder.

Solubility: TFA salts generally enhance the solubility of peptides in aqueous solutions.

In Biological Assays: For most standard in vitro assays, the residual TFA levels do not cause interference. However, for highly sensitive cellular or biochemical studies, please be aware of its presence.
