    The full-length NTF2-related export protein (p15), encoded by the Nxt1 gene, functions as a critical regulator of nuclear export processes. It stimulates protein export for NES-containing proteins and plays a fundamental role in the nuclear export of various RNA species including mRNA, U1 snRNA, and tRNA. Notably, in Drosophila ovaries, p15 forms complexes with nxf2, Panx, and piwi to mediate cotranscriptional transposon silencing and enables nuclear export of flamenco transcripts for subsequent piRNA biogenesis in ovarian follicle cells. The protein localizes to the nucleus and nuclear envelope, where it associates with the nuclear pore complex to facilitate transport mechanisms. This positions Nxt1 as a key player in both nuclear export pathways and epigenetic regulation of transposable elements.
