Description
Recombinant Human Neuromedin-U Fragment (1-89) is a high-purity protein preparation representing a stable and soluble unit of the neuromedin-U precursor. This fragment encompasses the N-terminal region that gives rise to multiple bioactive peptides, including neuromedin-U-25 and neuromedin precursor-related peptides, making it an ideal tool for studying neuromedin-U processing, structure, and function in gastrointestinal and neuroendocrine research.
Neuromedin-U is a multifunctional neuropeptide precursor that undergoes proteolytic cleavage to generate several biologically active peptides. The full-length protein produces neuromedin-U-25, which functions as a ligand for NMUR1 and NMUR2 receptors, stimulating muscle contractions in specific regions of the gastrointestinal tract and urinary bladder. Additionally, the precursor generates neuromedin precursor-related peptides 33 and 36, which do not function as NMUR1/NMUR2 ligands but indirectly induce prolactin release from pituitary lactotroph cells, with NURP36 showing higher potency in this function. As a secreted protein, neuromedin-U functions in extracellular signaling pathways, playing important roles in gastrointestinal motility, energy homeostasis, and neuroendocrine regulation.
