Description
Recombinant MEF2 transcription factor homolog (mef-2) fragment from Caenorhabditis elegans, encompassing the complete MADS-box domain (amino acids 1-93). This high-purity protein is ideal for studying DNA binding mechanisms, transcriptional regulation, and sensory signal transduction pathways in research applications.
The full-length MEF2 transcription factor homolog is a nuclear protein that functions as a key transcriptional regulator in Caenorhabditis elegans. It specifically binds to MEF2 response elements (5'-[TC]TA[AT][AT][AT][AT]TA[AG]-3') in target gene promoters, including chemoreceptors str-1 and srh-234. MEF2 participates in sensory signal transduction through interactions with egl-4, kin-29, and histone deacetylase hda-4, enabling negative modulation of chemoreceptor expression in chemosensory neurons. During starvation conditions, it collaborates with basic helix-loop-helix transcription factors to downregulate srh-234 expression in ADL sensory neurons. Additionally, MEF2 regulates muscle sensitivity to acetylcholine and modulates presynaptic acetylcholine release magnitude, potentially through indirect regulation of Rab-3 activity. The protein's nuclear localization and DNA-binding capabilities make it crucial for understanding transcriptional networks in neuronal and muscular systems.
