  • Description

The artificial cationic antimicrobial peptide KLKL5KLK (H-KLKLLLLLKLK-NH2) is a synthetic undecapeptide derived from sapecin B, modified to enhance activity. It exhibits structural features typical of cationic antimicrobial peptides, characterized by a palindromic sequence with alternating hydrophobic and cationic residues. This design promotes interactions with biological membranes and cell surfaces.

KLKL5KLK demonstrates the ability to enhance antigen association with antigen-presenting cells in vitro and forms a transient antigen depot at the injection site in vivo. The peptide retains its immuno-enhancing properties despite C-terminal amidation or synthesis with D-amino acids, indicating that its activity depends primarily on amino acid side chain sequence rather than backbone stereospecificity. It predominantly induces a TH2-type immune polarization profile when co-administered with proteinaceous or peptide-based antigens, as evidenced by elevated IL-4 and IL-5 production and sustained antibody responses.

  • Storage Guidelines
Normally, this peptide will be delivered in lyophilized form and should be stored in a freezer at or below -20 °C. For more details, please refer to the manual: Handling and Storage of Synthetic Peptides

  • About TFA salt

Trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) is a common counterion from the purification process using High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). The presence of TFA can affect the peptide's net weight, appearance, and solubility.

Impact on Net Weight: The TFA salt contributes to the total mass of the product. In most cases, the peptide content constitutes >80% of the total weight, with TFA accounting for the remainder.

Solubility: TFA salts generally enhance the solubility of peptides in aqueous solutions.

In Biological Assays: For most standard in vitro assays, the residual TFA levels do not cause interference. However, for highly sensitive cellular or biochemical studies, please be aware of its presence.
