Description
Recombinant Histone H3-like centromeric protein hcp-3 (CeCENP-A) fragment (amino acids 1-108) from Caenorhabditis elegans. This stable, soluble fragment is ideal for structural studies and biochemical assays investigating centromere-specific chromatin assembly and kinetochore function.
Histone H3-like centromeric protein hcp-3 (CeCENP-A) is a specialized histone variant that replaces conventional histone H3 exclusively in centromeric nucleosomes. It localizes to the nucleus, specifically at centromeres and kinetochores, where it is essential for recruiting kinetochore proteins, ensuring proper mitotic progression, and facilitating accurate chromosome segregation. CeCENP-A also contributes to cleavage furrow stability during cytokinesis and may serve as an epigenetic marker to maintain centromere identity across cell divisions. Its localization depends on interaction partners like knl-2 and lin-53, and it colocalizes with hcp-6 during mitosis. While critical for mitosis, it is not required for chromosome segregation in meiosis.
