Description
Recombinant Fem-3 mRNA-binding factor 1 (fbf-1) fragment (aa 165-568) from Caenororhabditis elegans, engineered for stability and solubility to support structural and biochemical studies of RNA regulation and germline development.
Fem-3 mRNA-binding factor 1 (FBF-1) is a key RNA-binding protein in C. elegans that recognizes the 5'-UGUGCCAUA-3' consensus sequence in mRNA 3'-UTRs. It plays critical roles in germline stem cell maintenance, sex determination, and the sperm/oocyte switch by binding regulatory regions such as the fem-3 3'-UTR. FBF-1 also modulates expression of genes like gld-3, gld-1, and lip-1 through 3'-UTR interactions, contributing to germline proliferation, oogenesis, and suppression of tumor formation by preventing spermatocyte dedifferentiation. Localized to the cytoplasm, it functions in coordination with complexes like cye-1/cdk-2 to regulate germline development and cellular fate decisions.
