  • Description

Recombinant ER degradation-enhancing alpha-mannosidase-like protein 2 (EDEM2) fragment (residues 22-507) from Homo sapiens, designed for structural and biochemical studies. This 486-amino acid fragment is optimized for stability and solubility, enabling researchers to investigate its critical role in endoplasmic reticulum-associated degradation (ERAD) of misfolded glycoproteins.

EDEM2 is a key component of the endoplasmic reticulum-associated degradation (ERAD) pathway, which selectively targets misfolded glycoproteins for degradation in an N-glycan-dependent manner. It functions in the endoplasmic reticulum lumen, where it is proposed to initiate ERAD by catalyzing the first mannose trimming step from Man9GlcNAc2 to Man8GlcNAc2 on substrate glycoproteins. EDEM2 may also recognize and bind exposed hydrophobic regions in misfolded proteins, facilitating their identification and processing within the ERAD quality control system.
