  • Description

Recombinant Human CHMP5 (Charged Multivesicular Body Protein 5) Fragment (residues 1-169) is a high-quality, soluble protein designed for structural and biochemical studies. This fragment represents a stable and functional unit of CHMP5, enabling researchers to investigate its role in endosomal sorting and membrane fission processes with enhanced experimental utility.

Charged Multivesicular Body Protein 5 (CHMP5) is a peripherally associated component of the Endosomal Sorting Required for Transport complex III (ESCRT-III), which plays a critical role in multivesicular body (MVB) formation and the sorting of endosomal cargo proteins into intraluminal vesicles. This process facilitates the degradation of membrane proteins, lysosomal enzymes, and lipids via delivery to lysosomes. Beyond MVB biogenesis, CHMP5 participates in topologically similar membrane fission events, including cytokinesis and the budding of enveloped viruses such as HIV-1. The protein localizes to the cytoplasm, cytosol, endosome membranes, and the midbody of dividing cells, where it forms distinct rings on either side of the Flemming body, underscoring its importance in cellular division and viral release mechanisms.
