Description
This recombinant protein product features a stable and soluble fragment (amino acids 44-146) of the human Calcitonin receptor (CT-R), designed for structural and biochemical studies. It offers researchers a functional unit ideal for investigating receptor-ligand interactions and signaling mechanisms in a controlled in vitro setting.
The full-length Calcitonin receptor (CT-R), encoded by the CALCR gene, is a G protein-coupled receptor that plays a critical role in peptide hormone signaling. It is activated by ligands such as amylin, calcitonin, and calcitonin gene-related peptide type 1, leading to downstream signaling via G proteins and modulation of cAMP-dependent pathways. CT-R can form complexes with receptor-activity-modifying proteins (RAMPs) to create distinct receptor phenotypes, highlighting its versatility in cellular communication. Located in the cell membrane as a multi-pass membrane protein, CT-R is essential for understanding metabolic and neurological processes. Note that isoform 2 of this receptor is non-functional and does not activate G protein pathways.
