  • Description

BmKn2 is an antimicrobial peptide originally characterized from the venom of the scorpion Mesobuthus martensii Karsch. It belongs to a class of cationic and amphiphilic peptides known for their ability to interact with microbial membranes.

A derivative of this peptide, named Kn2-7, was designed to enhance its antibacterial properties. Kn2-7 exhibits increased inhibitory activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria compared to the wild-type BmKn2. The peptide exerts its bactericidal effect by rapidly binding to key components of the bacterial cell wall: lipoteichoic acid (LTA) in Staphylococcus aureus and lipopolysaccharides (LPS) in Escherichia coli. This interaction leads to disruption of the cell surface structure. Furthermore, the hemolytic activity of the Kn2-7 derivative is significantly reduced relative to the original BmKn2 peptide.

BmKb1 and BmKn2 both are basic, α-helical peptide with an amidated C-terminus.

  • About TFA salt

Trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) is a common counterion from the purification process using High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). The presence of TFA can affect the peptide's net weight, appearance, and solubility.

Impact on Net Weight: The TFA salt contributes to the total mass of the product. In most cases, the peptide content constitutes >80% of the total weight, with TFA accounting for the remainder.

Solubility: TFA salts generally enhance the solubility of peptides in aqueous solutions.

In Biological Assays: For most standard in vitro assays, the residual TFA levels do not cause interference. However, for highly sensitive cellular or biochemical studies, please be aware of its presence.
