  • Description
Alarin is derived from a splice variant of galanin-like peptide (GALP) RNA. It shows potent and dose-dependent vasoconstrictor and anti-edema activity in the cutaneous microvasculature, as was also observed with other members of the galanin peptide family. Since alarin only shares five amino acids with GALP it is unlikely that the peptide can activate GALP-specific receptors. Originally discovered as neuropeptide in 2006 (Santic R et al 2006). It was termed alarin because of the N-terminal alanine and the C-terminal serine. In 2013, this peptide was demonstrated to have antimicrobial activity as well. Active against Gram-negative E. coli ML-35. Deletion of the conserved N-terminal sequence (APAHR) reduced its antimicrobial activity, suggesting that APAHR is essential for its antimicrobial activity. Electron microscopy showed that alarin caused bacterial membrane blebbing. Updated 11/26/2013. Alarin has Antibacterial activity. Alarin was found in brain, Homo sapiens.

  • About TFA salt

Trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) is a common counterion from the purification process using High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). The presence of TFA can affect the peptide's net weight, appearance, and solubility.

Impact on Net Weight: The TFA salt contributes to the total mass of the product. In most cases, the peptide content constitutes >80% of the total weight, with TFA accounting for the remainder.

Solubility: TFA salts generally enhance the solubility of peptides in aqueous solutions.

In Biological Assays: For most standard in vitro assays, the residual TFA levels do not cause interference. However, for highly sensitive cellular or biochemical studies, please be aware of its presence.
