    AF-16 comprises the active site region (I)VCHSKTR of the antisecretory factor protein known to inhibit intestinal fluid secretion induced by cholera toxin. The peptide was shown to abolish sickness and death in experimental herpes simplex encephalitis by reducing increase of intracranial pressure.
