  • Background
MPZL2 (myelin protein zero-like 2), also named as EVA (epithelial V-like antigen) or EVA1, is a type 1 transmembrane protein of the myelin P0 protein family, containing an Ig-like V-type (immunoglobulin-like) domain and two potential glycosylation sites. MPZL2 is expressed in thymus epithelium and strongly downregulated by thymocyte developmental progression. Its capacity to mediate cell adhesion through a homophilic interaction and its selective regulation by T cell maturation might imply the participation of EVA in the earliest phases of thymus organogenesis. The gene of MPZL2 maps to chromosome 11q24, and encodes a 215-amino acid protein with a predicted unmodified molecular weight of 24.5 kDa. This antibody can be used to detect endogenous MPZL2, however, the reason for the additional band of 32 kDa is still unknown.
