Background
Insulin-like growth factor-binding protein 4 (IGFBP4), also named as IBP4, is a 258 amino acid porotein, which contains one IGFBP N-terminal domain and one thyroglobulin type-1 domain. IGF-binding proteins prolong the half-life of the IGFs and have been shown to either inhibit or stimulate the growth promoting effects of the IGFs on cell culture. They alter the interaction of IGFs with their cell surface receptors. IGFBP4 is a secreted protein and calculated molecular weight is 28 kDa. The modified IGFBP4 protein is about 40 kDa.
