Background
Ei24 is an ER-localized protein originally identified as a p53-induced proapoptotic gene in etoposide-treated NIH3T3 cells. It has been shown to be able to bind to the antiapoptotic protein Bcl-2 (PMID: 15781622), play a role in autophagy (PMID: 23074225), and induce growth arrest/apoptosis (PMID: 10594026). Ei24 can bind specifically to IMPβ1 and IMPα2 to impede their normal role in nuclear import (PMID: 24821838).
